Kate Winslet is "extremely surprised" to be nominated for a Golden Globe Award just days after welcoming her third child.

The 38-year-old actress, who gave birth to a nine-pound baby boy with her third husband, Ned Rocknroll, in Sussex, England, last Saturday, is up for Best Actress in a Drama for her performance in 'Labor Day' at the ceremony at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles next month.

The British star, who also has a nine-year-old son, Joe, with her ex-husband, Sam Mendes, and a daughter Mia, 13, with her ex-husband Jim Threapleton, told UsMagazine.com: "I'm extremely surprised and absolutely thrilled to be included this year!!‎ Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association."

'12 Years a Slave' and 'American Hustle' lead the 2014 nominations with seven nods each, and the latter star's Jennifer Lawrence, who is up for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture, is very happy the movie has been so well received.

She said: "This is so exciting. I'm thrilled that the film received so many nominations and that I get to share this with the rest of the cast."

'Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom' star Idris Elba, who scored two nominations, paid tribute to the late Nelson Mandela after hearing the news on December 12, 2013.

He said: "I'm truly humbled and honoured to be acknowledged for two projects that, though very different from one another, are both extremely personal and special to me. Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press for your support, and I would also like to give a special thank you to Mr. Mandela, who will be forever missed."

Elsewhere, Leonardo DiCaprio, who is up for Best Actor in a motion picture, Musical or Comedy for 'The Wolf of Wall Street' said: "I'm truly honoured to be nominated by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association today. Making 'Wolf of Wall Street' was one of the highlights of my career. Thank you again to the HFPA for their support."

The Golden Globes ceremony - aired by NBC - will take place on January 12, 2014, and will be hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
