AC/DC, The Rolling Stones, Slash, Journey and Rush topped the billing at the Marshall Classic Rock Roll of Honour awards late on Wednesday.

The annual event organized by London-based Classic Rock Magazine took place at London's Roundhouse, with rocker Alice Cooper hosting the ceremony.

Former Guns N' Roses lead guitarist Slash picked up the prize for Album Of The Year for his eponymous solo debut "Slash." He beat off the likes of Iron Maiden, KISS, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, Gaslight Anthem, and Wolfmother.

Australian rock legends AC/DC were honored with the Band Of The Year award, following their UK number one album for "AC/DC: Iron Man 2" earlier this year.

The album, which doubled as the soundtrack for Paramount Pictures' hit film Iron Man 2, included classic AC/DC hits such as "Highway to Hell," "Back in Black" and "Let There Be Rock."

Canadian band Rush followed in the footsteps of Alice Cooper, Ozzy Osbourne and Iggy Pop winning the night's Living Legend award.

Other prizes included The Rolling Stones for "Exile On Main Street," which hit top spot in the UK charts on its re-issue in May this year, 38 years after its original release.

U.S. band Journey were awarded the Event Of The Year award in recognition of their 1981 "Don't Stop Believin'" which went back into the UK top 10.

The classic rock anthem appeared on hit TV series "Glee," and was covered on ITV's UK music reality TV show "The X-Factor" by 2009 winner Joe McElderry.

Classic Rock Magazine editor-in-chief Scott Rowley said the awards showed rock was alive and well in the 21st century, with bands topping charts and performing well in digital sales and tour earnings: "all proof that rock music is still the most exciting genre in music."
