Han embroidery, which has a history of over 2,000 years, is among 10 major embroidery styles in China, as are Hunan embroidery and Suzhou embroidery. Yang Xiaoting, 35, is recognized as a rising star of Han embroidery in Wuhan city, capital of central China's Hubei province.
Hubei-born Yang has set out to learn a wide range of different embroidery skills from all over China and she is applying the fused knowledge in her own works - which range from samples of animals and flowers, landscapes and folk art, to Da Vinci's famous Mona Lisa to her own self-portrait.
