798 art zone, Beijing
The former site of the Beijing North China Joint Radio Equipment Factory was designed and built by experts from the former German Democratic Republic in the 1950s. It was constructed in the Bauhaus architectural spirit to meet practical demands.
In December 2000, the six defunct sub-factories of 700, 706, 707, 718, 797 and 798 were re-organized. Many art organizations and artists transformed the zone into a must-see tourist destination of galleries, art studios, cultural companies and fashion stores.
