Publication programs help foreign readers learn more about China

The two programs were launched in 2006 and 2009 jointly by the State Council Information Office and the General Administration of Press and Publication, aiming at encouraging foreign publishers to translate and publish Chinese books by providing grants, with a view to helping readers abroad to learn more about China.
Domestic publishers have established ties with more than 500 overseas publishers in some 70 countries, according to Cui Yuying, vice-minister of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and vice-minister of the State Council Information Office.
The publishers include Elsevier, Springer, Penguins Langdon, and Cambridge University Press, she said.
By the end of 2015, China Book International has signed 1,454 deals with 564 foreign publishing houses from 71 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Russia, Australia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Vietnam, Brazil, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates, covering 2,792 titles translated into 47 different languages.
The China Masterwork International has signed 95 agreements with 59 overseas publishing houses from 24 countries, for the translation of 957 titles into 15 different languages.
