BEIJING - Six people have been killed and one injured in a gold mine accident in northern suburbs of Beijing, local authorities said Sunday.
The government of the city's Pinggu district received report on Saturday morning from the township of Jinhaihu, saying five people were trapped in a mine shaft while illegally mining gold.
The report also mentioned two injured who had been sent to a local hospital.
Rescuers pulled five bodies out of the shaft around 5 pm Saturday. One of the injured inhaled too much toxic gas and died in hospital later in the day, a government spokesman said.
An investigation into the accident has been underway.
