China rolled out its fifth generation communication (5G) experiment on Wednesday as the country looks to enter 5G research and development.
The Ministry of Industry and Information said the experiment stage will last three years, from 2016 to 2018.
Cao Shumin, head of China Academy of Telecommunication Research (the institution leading the 5G research), said the cutting-edge technology will be put into trial operation in 2018 before being fully commercialized in 2020.
