Shanghai education authorities have denied media reports that they are canceling the English exam in a reform of the national college entrance exam.

Local media recently reported that the English test will be removed from the college entrance exam in Shanghai, and students would only take Chinese and math exams.

"The so-called reform plan reported by some media is incomplete and inaccurate. So far, Shanghai is positively formulating its general reform plan for the national college entrance exam under the requirements of the Ministry of Education and the central government," the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission said on its official micro blog account at Sina.com on Thursday.

The education authorities said they will solicit public opinions when the draft plan is ready. The final plan will be released after it is approved by the municipal government.
