HEFEI - An elderly man had been confirmed as infected with H7N9 bird flu in east China's Anhui Province, health authorities said Sunday.
The 66-year-old man from Susong County suffered an upper respiratory tract infection earlier this month and was confirmed as infected with bird flu on Saturday. He is in a critical condition.
His wife has engaged in live poultry trading.
Live poultry markets in Susong County and the urban area of Anqing City, which governs Susong, were suspended on Sunday.
China has reported more than 120 human H7N9 cases this year, including over 25 deaths, with provinces of Zhejiang and Guangdong worst affected.
