The China Consumers Association (CCA) called for a film rating system to protect minors from inappropriate scenes.

With Children's Day around the corner on June 1, many parents bring their children to the movies as a family activity. Some have expressed their concerns over the violent and erotic scenes, prompting CCA to make the suggestion.

Films can be categorized as restricted and optional, said CCA. Moviegoers have to show their identification cards before watching the restricted films. In the other case, cinemas are supposed to give warnings and let parents make the decision.

Films are not rated but censored in China. The practice, dating back to 1997, has created a loophole for movie theaters. Necessary warnings have been neglected at some theaters, leaving parents confused and misguided.
