BEIJING - American post-apocalyptic science fiction film Oblivion, starring Tom Cruise, hits Chinese screens on Friday.

The movie, directed by Joseph Kosinski, is set in 2077 where human beings have been moved to other planets because Earth has been invaded by aliens and nuclear radiation is gravely threatening people's lives, according to the Chinese releaser EDKO Film Ltd.

Cruise plays one of the last drone repairmen stationed on Earth, who accidentally meets a woman, played by Olga Kurylenko, and is faced with a doomsday crisis.

Kosinski said the plot focuses on two groups of people. One sticks to their obsessiveness, not willing to face up to the facts; the other accepts every fact no matter how severe it is.

Kosinski made his big-screen directorial debut with 3D science fiction movie Tron: Legacy, which made 400 million U.S. dollars at the box office and received Oscar nominations.
