BEIJING - Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on Monday reaffirmed the country's support for the just cause of the Palestinian people.

While meeting Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Beijing, Li noted that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of China-Palestine diplomatic relations, and reviewed a profound friendship between the two countries.

Li said the new Chinese government has placed great importance on consolidating China-Palestine relations and firmly supports the just cause of the Palestinian people.

"China will continue its own way and make use of its influence to boost Palestine-Israel peace negotiations, which will work for regional and world peace and stability," he said.

On the economic front, the premier said China will deepen and expand bilateral cooperation in all fields and offer substantial support to the Palestinian people.

Li pledged China will carry out the existing projects, encourage more Chinese businesses with strong capabilities to invest in Palestine, help Palestine with infrastructure, train more people and strengthen people-to-people exchanges.

Abbas reviewed the growth of Palestine-China relations and pledged to expand mutually beneficial cooperation with China and welcome more Chinese investment in Palestine.

He said Palestine expects China to continue its important role in promoting the Middle East peace process.

Earlier on Monday, Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with Abbas and made a four-point proposal for the settlement of the Palestinian issue.

Abbas will conclude his China visit on Tuesday.
