A man who extorted 3.6 million yuan ($560,000) by stealing a rich man’s casket five years ago was arrested in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province on Thursday, a local newspaper reported.
In November 2006, 38-year-old Wu, of Shandong province, out of jealousy for a wealthy local surnamed Wang, conspired with another man to steal Wang's late father's casket and threatened to destroy it in exchange for a ransom of 3.6 million yuan. During the exchange, the other suspect was arrested, but Wu fled from Shandong.
Wu was caught working at a dumpling restaurant in Xiamen on Thursday.
