China approved the anti-monopoly filing by Shenhua and GE China to set up a joint venture providing coal gasification technologies with additional condition, the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said on Thursday in a circular.
The circular says the MOC attached additional condition with the approval because the joint venture between China Shenhua Coal To Liquid And Chemical Co and GE China may "eliminate and restrict competition" in the market of licensing coal water slurry gasification technologies.
The circular says that the joint venture should not force the buyer to use the gasification technologies from the venture or raise the costs of using other technologies by restricting the supply of coal used in the technologies or on conditions of supplying the sort of coal, according to the circular.
The MOC has the right to supervise and review the implementation of the additional condition by the joint venture, the circular says.
Shenhua and GE China announced the establishment of the joint venture in January.
