NEW DELHI - A passenger plane of national carrier Air India, with 169 people on board, made an emergency landing at an airport in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, a senior aviation official said.

"The plane, an Airbus A-321, made an emergency landing at the Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in state capital Lucknow after one of the pilots spotted a crack in the aircraft's windscreen. All the passengers and the crew members on board are safe," he said on condition of anonymity.

The flight was on its way to the eastern state of Odisha's capital Bhubaneswar from the Indian capital when the pilot noticed the crack, the official said.

A probe has been ordered into the incident, he added.
