CAIRO -- At least 95 people were killed and 874 injured across Egypt on Wednesday, as the police staged a dispersal operation at two major squares against supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsi, a health official told Xinhua.

"A total of 23 people were killed and 447 injured in Cairo's Rabaa al-Adawiya Square in Nasr City, Moustafa Mahmoud Square in Mohandseen districts, and Nahda Square in Giza during the police's clear-up," Mohamed Fatah-Allah, spokesperson of health Ministry, told Xinhua.

Elsewhere outside Cairo, 37 were killed and 427 injured in Alexandria, Suez, Beheira, Minya, Sohag, Daqahliya and Asyut governorates, he added.

It is difficult for ambulance to reach the site, Rabaa in particular, the source said, adding that all hospitals are totally alert and well prepared to receive and treat the injured.

For his part, Ahmed Aaref, spokesman of the Muslim Brotherhood, from which Morsi hails, told Xinhua that some 180 protesters were killed and over 7,000 injured, quoting figures he got from a field hospital.
