LONDON -- Founder of WikiLeaks Julian Assange was arrested by British police on Tuesday over sexual assault claims in Sweden.

Officers from Scotland Yard detained the 39-year-old Australian at about 9:30 a.m. local time, according to Britain's Sky news. Britain has received a European arrest warrant from Sweden on Monday.

Two women in Sweden accused Assange of sexually attacking them when he visited the country in August, but Assange denied the claims.

Assange is expected to appear in a court in Britain.
