Students and representatives from non-governmental organizations and various companies celebrated a weekend of sustainable living at the Roots and Shoots China Summit 2013 in Beijing.

The Oct 19 summit aimed to raise awareness among the younger generation to respect and conserve Earth's resources.

Participants of all ages set up booths to sell creative and eco-friendly products that promote individual and collective efforts to protect animals and the environment. Hosting groups also prepared workshops and lectures for visitors.

As air pollution in China became a hot topic for discussion in 2012, urban citizens have had to consider making changes in their lifestyle to become greener or more sustainable. The Chinese government is implementing plans to solve the issue, including cooperating with countries that have had the experience in tackling air pollution problems, like the United Kingdom.

The Jane Goodall Institute China, founded by Dr Jane Goodall, a British scientist specializing in chimpanzee behavior, the Roots and Shoots Beijing Office and the China Beijing United Charity Foundation hosted this event. All of the proceeds from the event went to the Roots and Shoots program for further education and development.
