The vessel has 62 ocean-view suites, outfitted with amenities like in-suite bars and contemporary bathrooms. |
The vessel will explore the remote areas in the Indian and Pacific oceans, and head to the virtually uncharted waters of Russia's far east. Highlights of its 2014 itineraries include Australia's Kimberley region, Russia's wild Siberia and the Sea of Okhotsk.
The signature destination when the vessel embarked on its maiden voyage from Broome to Darwin on April 2 was the Kimberley Coast in western Australia's remote north.
Silversea's sales and marketing director for Australia and New Zealand Karen Christensen has taken the Kimberley route and says the Silver Discoverer will open up a section of Australia that's one of its most beautiful, unspoiled and-until now-inaccessible.
Silversea Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific president Steve Odell adds: "The other big advantage of this ship is that it has a swimming pool. Most of the expedition ships operating in the Kimberley region don't have swimming pools. So guests no longer have to swim with the crocodiles."
An onboard swimming pool is a standard fitment on cruise liners but is indeed rare on smaller expedition ships.
Additionally, the voyage is accompanied by a team of 11 experts, including lecturers such as marine biologists, dive masters, historians and naturalists. Their educational, research and personal accomplishments make each expedition and adventure into the wilderness unique. There are lectures and briefings prior to each excursion followed by guided field studies featuring wildlife and local culture.
