Comment on "Super rice yield sets world record" (China Daily, Sept 20)

The report was highly interesting. The great progress that the human species has made in the field of science is amazing.

The super rice is a wonderful achievement for Yuan Longping, who has spent much of his life trying to make the world a better place. His work will not only help Chinese people, but also others across the globe because it increases crop productivity and reduces costs.

Rice is the staple food of hundreds of millions of people, and Yuan's work will help growers as well as consumers. I think crop hybridization is a more natural way to increase food yield than the use of chemicals or growing crops in laboratories.

Yuan deserves the highest praise for his accomplishments. The innovation will become a trend in China and across the globe.
