Comment on "Outsourcing higher education?" (China Daily website, Dec 15)

Once Chinese university degrees are recognized overseas, more international students will come to China to earn their degrees not only in Chinese, but also in other subjects.

To compete on a global level, the Chinese education system has to undergo certain changes. For that to happen, the government should make it mandatory to buy textbooks only from original publishers and take measures to improve teachers' spoken English. It has to take steps to attract more foreign students to the country, too.

Besides, the education authorities should give students the option to stay outside campuses and encourage to express their thoughts more freely rather than repeat what they are taught.
