Loleatta Holloway, the disco singer best known for her 1980 hit "Love Sensation," has died at the age of 64, her manager Ron Richardson said.

Richardson confirmed on his Twitter account that Holloway had died on Monday after a brief illness.

"Another Legendary Angel Loleatta Holloway Gone to (sic) soon Rest in Peace Sweet Loleatta..RR," he posted.

Holloway was born in Chicago, where she began singing in gospel groups like the Holloway Community Singers and The Caravans before signing with Aware Records.

She released her first album, "Loleatta," in 1973.

In the latter 1970s, Holloway recorded a string of hit disco singles including "Only You," "Hit and Run" and "Catch Me on the Rebound."

But her most memorable hit was "Love Sensation," which reached No. 1 on Billboard's Dance/Club Play Songs chart in 1980.

Holloway also sang on Black Box's 1989 hit "Ride on Time," and she was featured on Marky Mark & the Funky Bunch's 1991 hit "Good Vibrations," which climbed to No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart

She returned twice to the top of the Dance/Club Play Songs chart twice after "Love Sensation," first in 1998 as a guest on Fire Island's "Shout to the Top," and then with her own "Dreamin'" in 2000.
