Will.i.am returning to 'Idol' to perform 'Rio' song

LOS ANGELES  - Just two weeks after performing with the Black Eyed Peas on "American Idol," will.i.am will return to the top-rated Fox TV show to perform his song from the 20th Century Fox animated film, "Rio."

"Hot Wings (I Wanna Party)" is a duet between will.i.am and Jamie Foxx in the film that opens April 15. The song is not being released as a single, but will.i.am believes it will become "a viral baton that is, in a sense, a single."

"Nowadays, anything can get cut up and become a viral single," will.i.am told Billboard.com during a phone interview from Rio de Janeiro, where the movie premieres Tuesday night.

"I'm glad to be performing on 'Idol.' That will be a single, and the scene in the film acts as a music video."

Foxx said he has spoken with will.i.am and Swizz Beatz about contributing to his R&B/Hip-hop-themed animated feature, "Welcome to the Jungle."

The film, announced a year ago, is still in the script stage, he said.
