Rapper Ja Rule faces prison after hiding gun

Rapper Ja Rule pleaded guilty on Monday to attempted criminal possession of a weapon and will serve two years in prison, authorities said.

The charge stemmed from a July 2007 incident in which police pulled Ja Rule over after a concert in New York and found a semi-automatic handgun hidden in the rear door of his luxury Maybach, the Manhattan District Attorney's Office said.

The 34-year-old rapper, nominated in 2002 for a Grammy Award for his album "Pain is Love," must report back to court on February 9 but no sentencing date has been fixed.

"Minor setback for a major comeback," wrote the rapper, whose real name is Jeffrey Atkins, on Twitter after leaving court.

Fellow rapper Lil Wayne was arrested separately after the same concert at the Beacon Theater after police discovered him smoking marijuana near a tour bus.

Ja Rule has appeared in several films, most notably "The Fast and the Furious" and "Scary Movie 3."
