In order to escape from the turmoil of city life and seek inspiration from nature, 67-year-old artist Song Chuanzhong has been living in a cave for the past 30 years. The cave is located one kilometer away from Goupitan town, Yuqing county, Guizhou province. The 60 square meter cave is covered with a variety of stalactites, stalagmites and columns. In terms of furniture, the Chinese farmer artist requires little more than a bed, a painting desk and a tea table.

The artist, who has been called a "weirdo" for his unique lifestyle, makes his own painting brushes from natural materials. His main income comes from selling his work to wholesalers. He said his dream is to complete a 400-meter-long painting depicting the beauty of China that would be acquired by an art museum.
