Wang Mouhu, former deputy director of the criminal investigation department under Qiongzhong Li and Miao autonomous county in Hainan, was convicted of accepting bribes, and sentenced to 10 years in prison on Monday.
Wang was sentenced by Hainan Provincial No 1 Intermediate Court.
The court said Wang used his position to offer help to criminal suspects who wanted to be bailed even though they may not qualify for bail. In return, he received bribes of up to 142,000 yuan ($23,051).
In September, he was earmarked for investigation by the anti–corruption department, which issued an arrest order in October, according to Qiongzhong county people's procuratorate.
