Ouyang Yi, director of the Health Bureau of Heyuan in Guangdong province, is being investigated after an online video showed him allegedly gambling with mahjong, Guangzhou-based New Express Daily reported.
In the video, Ouyang, who is also vice-chairman of the Heyuan City Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), was playing mahjong with a doctor, a pharmaceutical supplier and a medical device supplier.
Subtitles on the video alleged that more than 10,000 yuan ($1,610) was involved in the mahjong game, the paper said.
During Ouyang’s term as head of the Heyuan People’s Hospital and later at the health bureau, the two businessmen involved in the game supplied most of the pharmaceuticals, medical devices and the computer system, the paper said.
According to the Party discipline watchdog of Heyuan, Ouyang is now being investigated by the Guangdong Provincial Party Commission for Discipline Inspection.
He had been sacked from his post at the health bureau and suspended from his position at the CPPCC Heyuan committee, said an unidentified local official.
