The State Administration of Cultural Heritage on Wednesday transferred around 1,200 relics, including some pieces retrieved from abroad in recent years, to the Hainan Provincial Museum.

The move aims to enrich the museum’s collection and to better serve the local cultural life, said SACH’s Vice-Director Dong Baohua at the press conference held to mark the transfer.

The relics, mostly pottery ranging from the pre-historic period to the early 20th century, reflect China’s long history of pottery making.

The pieces include 143 items retrieved from Denmark through diplomatic channels in 2008, which, hopefully, will serve as a reminder to the Chinese public on the importance of the preservation of cultural relics, Dong added.
