CHONGQING - A burglary in the city center of Chongqing Municipality Friday afternoon lead to the dispatching of anti-riot police and closing of several downtown roads.

The suspect, even so, managed to make his getaway after robbing a car rental company located in an office building near the Guanyinqiao pedestrian street in Jiangbei District at 2:20 pm, police said.

The street was cordoned off after the burglary and only police could enter.

Meanwhile, all major roads leading to the city center were on lockdown, with police checking every passing vehicle.

A local radio station reported, on its microblog, that traffic was moving slowly. It warned drivers to avoid entering the city center.

Some Internet users claimed they had witnessed the incident and provided the license plate number of a gray car in which the suspect fled the scene.

Police are still chasing the suspect.
