Plant suspends production after water pollution

Production is suspended at the Xichuan Minjiang Electrolytic Manganese Plant in Mianyang, Southwest China's Sichuan province, pictured in this photo taken on July 27, 2011. Residue from the plant was washed into rivers by heavy rains last Thursday and contaminated Mianyang's water source, the Fujiang River, according to a notice posted on the city government's official website. Residents have resorted to panicked buying of bottled water after local authorities announced the contamination on Tuesday. [Photo/chinadaily.com.cn]
