Xinjiang celebrates water-saving festival
Local residents perform traditional dances to celebrate the annual Qingquan Festival, which literally translates to mean the festival of clearing the spring, in Xiamaya village, Yiwu county, Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, June 9, 2011. The festival, first celebrated more than 100 years ago and listed as Xinjiang's intangible cultural heritage in 2007, is the only traditional festival in Xinjiang that features water saving and conservation. People clear the mouth of the spring and the water channels, and share a communal meal, on that day. [Photo/Asianewsphoto]
