Zhang, 63, has been a volunteer for 32 years, helping to protect Dianchi Lake and its surrounding Xishan Mountain. During that time, he took photos to record those who were hurting the environment and sent the evidence to local government. Though his body has sometimes been black and blue due to backlash from violators, he is still enthusiastic about continuing on his road, "I want to give back to my saviors. The lake and mountain provided me food and a place to live after I became an orphan." His long-time dedication to protecting the environment has moved many people to praise his work, and he has appeared in an international publicity video for China. [Photo/Xinhua]
