Heavy rainfall in upstream of Yangtze river has resulted in tons of household waste and broken branches flowing into Three Gorges Reservoir. The floating garbage, ranging from plastic food wrappings to used condoms, may have a serious environmental impact on the ecosystem of the reservoir, although sanitation workers are working around the clock to clear the trash. Experts urge raising environment protection awareness in Yangtze river upstream regions and strengthening environmental protection measures by government agencies.
