BYD Daimler launched launched the Denza 400 in Beijing on Friday with real vehicles displayed to the public for the first time.

Yan Chen, CEO of BYD Daimler New Technology Company, economist Ma Guangyuan and financial analyst Ye Tan attended the ceremony.

The new DENZA 400 all-electric (EV) model is reportedly being manufactured at the joint venture’s independent production line at the BYD base in Shenzhen.

The DENZA 400 features improved battery density achieved through an upgraded production process that increases the battery’s capacity from 47.5 kWh to 62 kWh while maintaining the original size. With an upgraded range of up to 400 km, most Chinese consumers, who generally drive 50 to 80 km per day, will only need to recharge their DENZA 400 once per week.

The new offering builds on the work of the first-generation DENZA, launched back in 2014. The first-generation DENZA sold more than 3,000 units during its first year of availability in China.

"New energy vehicles are going to develop fast thanks to governmental support and growing demand," said Yan.

China produced 177,000 new energy vehicles and sells 170,000, increasing 125% and 126.9% year on year respectively.
