Passenger planes catches fire in southern India, all safe

NEW DELHI - A plane with 69 people on board Wednesday made an emergency landing in southern Indian city Bengaluru, following detection of smoke in its cabin, officials said.

The plane destined to neighbouring city of Mangalore landed at Bengaluru airport minutes after its take off.

Officials said all the passengers were evacuated safely.

"Jet Airways flight 9W 2839 from Banglore to Mangalore returned to Banglore airport soon after departure due to smoke detected in the cabin," a statement issued by private airliner said.

"Precautionary evacuation of guests and crew was carried out immediately on landing. All 65 guests and four crew members are safe."
