BEIJING - China and the European Union (EU) will strengthen coordination and communication so as to make the 2016 Group of 20 (G20) summit a success, senior officials said Wednesday.
In a phone conversation with EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi voiced the hope that the two sides make full use of various mechanisms, including leaders' meetings, to push forward their relations.
Yang noted that the G20 is a major forum for international economic cooperation and plays an irreplaceable role in global economic governance.
It is the common wish of all parties that the upcoming G20 summit in China's eastern city of Hangzhou be a success and yield great results, said Yang.
China stands ready to enhance coordination and communication with the EU so that the summit could achieve positive results in formulating innovative growth strategies, the top Chinese diplomat said.
For her part, Mogherini said the EU is willing to work closely with China to push for a positive outcome at this year's EU-China summit and ensure a successful G20 summit in Hangzhou.
