MOSCOW - Russia has started deliveries of S-300 missile systems to Iran, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said Monday.

"We are acting in strict compliance with the contract," Rogozin told Russian radio station Ekho Moskvy.

He said that Russia has already sent the first batch of S-300 systems to Iran.

"I cannot say what exactly has been supplied but the supply was conducted by a logistics route elaborated by Russian and Iranian specialists," he added.

After receiving the first batch of the systems, Iran is abandoning its claim to Russia from the International Court of Arbitration, according to Rogozin.

Russia and Iran inked the contract for the S-300 systems in 2007, which amounted to about 900 million U.S. dollars. The contract was suspended in 2010 by Russia in connection with UN sanctions.

The contract between Moscow and Tehran came into force in April 2015, after the sanctions against Iran were lifted.
