ANKARA -- At least 10 people were detained in the Turkish capital Ankara on Monday for allegedly recruiting for the Islamic State (IS) militant group, Anadolu Agency reported.

The suspects were busted in an early morning operation by Ankara anti-terror police squads, security sources said.

On Sunday, the Turkish Army detained 23 suspected IS militants trying to enter the country through Syria.

Turkey was pressured to enhance its security measures against suspected IS militants operating in the country, following criticism it was too slow in discerning the threat.

Turkey escalated its efforts against the militants, following persistent criticism of its deficient control of jihadist fighters from crossing its volatile border with Syria.

The increased security measures came after a series of deadly attacks against Turkey which were attributed to IS militants.
