At least 11 Chinese tourists were killed and dozens injured after their coach bus swerved off the road in Doi Saket district, Chiang Mai, North Thailand, on Sunday morning.
A local media reported that the bus carrying over 20 tourists ran off the road after experiencing braking failures.
Rescue work is still underway as Chinese consulate officials are rushing to the area to get more information of the incident.
Thailand is already one of China's largest outbound tourism destinations as the country has been attracting Chinese tourists to boost its economic growth.
According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand, around 4.6 million Chinese tourists traveled to Thailand in 2014.
