Egyptian president visits Singapore to promote ties

SINGAPORE - Singapore's President Tony Tan Keng Yam and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Monday met with visiting Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi.
Sisi is on a state visit to Singapore from Sunday to Tuesday at the invitation of President Tan.
This is the first state visit by an Egyptian president to the city state since the establishment of bilateral diplomatic ties in 1966, according to Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
President Tan held a welcome ceremony at Istana for the Egyptian president on Monday morning. Following the courtesy call on President Tan, Sisi met with Lee Hsien Loong.
The Egyptian president on Monday morning also attended an orchid naming ceremony at Singapore Botanic Gardens. On Sunday, he met with local Muslim community and inter-faith leaders at the Harmony Center.
