NEW DELHI - A major fire broke out at an iconic shopping market in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal capital Kolkata Monday, a senior police official said.
However, there have been no reports of any casualty in the fire that broke out in the 144-year-old Sir Stuart Hogg Market, also known as New Market, the official said, on condition of anonymity.
"Some 15 fire tenders have been pressed into service to douse the flames. One part of the market has been completely gutted," he said.
A probe has been ordered into the incident, the official added.
