Singapore ranks top tourist destination next year: report

SINGAPORE - Travel media company Lonely Planet has named Singapore as the world's top destinations among countries to visit next year, while Washington D.C. of the United States is named the top city to visit, Singapore media reported on Tuesday.

The Lonely Planet Best in Travel 2015 also named Gallipoli as the top tourist destination for the year ahead, Channel NewsAsia reported.

Factors such as new developments including hotels and attractions including the Singapore Sports Hub and the National Art Gallery next year contributed to the attraction of Singapore, the Lonely Planet said. It also noted an emerging local fashion scene and the artisanal coffee.

On the top destination list, Namibia came in second, while Lithuania and Nicaragua came in third and fourth, respectively. The other countries that made it to the top 10 were Ireland, Republic of Congo, Serbia, Philippines, St Lucia and Morocco.

The top regions list includes Rocky Mountain National Park, Toledo, Tasmania, Arctic Norway, Khmubu, The Copper Canyon, Flores, Atacama Desert and Macao.

On the cities list, El Chalten came in second, Miland third and Zermatt fourth. Other cities on the top 10 list include Valletta, Plovdiv, Salisbury, Vienna, Chennai and Toronto.
