NEW DELHI -- At least 18 people were missing when a boat carrying them capsized in the Ganga river in northern Indian state Uttar Pradesh's Mirzapur district Tuesday evening, police said.
Around 40 to 50 people were on board the boat when the accident took place.
Police divers and a team of National Disaster Response Force ( NDRF) have been looking for any survivors though the chances of finding them were slim.
The Ganga water level has been rising for days due to rains.
