ATHENS - Greek police have arrested the leader of a local terrorist group after a failed bank robbery in central Athens, local media reported Wednesday.
A policeman was injured during the shootout between the robbers and police forces which occurred near the parliament building, according to early information.
According to police sources, among the detained was Nikos Maziotis, a leading member of the Revolutionary Struggle who had escaped from prison two years ago.
Revolutionary Struggle claimed responsibility for the recent car bomb blast outside the headquarters of the Central Bank of Greece in April that caused material damage but no injuries.
Both Maziotis as well as convicted terrorist Christodoulos Xiros of the dismantled November 17 group, who went missing this January during a prison break, have in recent months threatened the nation with fresh attacks.
