CANBERRA -- A plane, found to be caught on fire soon after taking off from Perth airport in Western Australia on Tuesday morning, has landed safely.
An investigation is underway, the Australian Broadcast Corporation (ABC) reported.
The Cobham Aviation flight was scheduled to depart at 10.45 a.m. for Barrow Island, the Perth Airport website showed. And according to the introduction from its official website, Cobham operates aircraft on behalf of Qantas regional subsidiary QantasLink.
According to local media, the Cobham Aviation flight landed safely after the mid-air incident, a Perth Airport spokeswoman confirmed.
Pictures and descriptions have emerged on social media later on Tuesday afternoon, such like Twitter and Facebook, of a plane with an engine appearing to be on fire. And witnesses have reported seeing the flames coming from the right engine.
"I saw this plane fly over and I noticed one of the engines was on fire," said Kewdale resident Craig Ablett, who witnessed the incident.
"It had more or less just taken off...The flames coming out of the engine would have been 10, 20 metres long," Craig Ablett told local media.
Fire crews are examining the circumstances of the blaze in one of the Cobham Aviation aircraft's engines, the ABC reported.
