CAIRO - Trial of Egypt's deposed Islamist president Mohamed Morsi has been adjourned to January 8, 2014, the presiding judge said on Monday.
The trial that was held at Police Academy in eastern New Cairo neighborhood, was suspended twice Monday due to chants by the Muslim Brotherhood defendants against the court and the army.
Morsi had arrived in the courthouse in the morning with his private clothes as he refused to wear the uniform of the preventive detention.
Sources inside the courthouse said that the presiding judge asked Morsi to wear the uniform but he refused.
Morsi is accused along with the other 14 top Muslim Brotherhood officials of inciting the violence and the murder of protesters outside the presidential palace in December 2012.
It was Morsi's first public appearance since he was toppled by the military on July 3 in response to nationwide protests against his one-year rule. He has been held at an undisclosed location after his arrest.
