NEW DELHI - At least one person has been killed and two others injured after a 150-year-old residential building collapsed in the Indian capital Wednesday, a senior police official said.

"The building collapsed like a pack of cards at Azad Maidan Market locality in the north of the national capital at 8 am (local time). While a dead body has been pulled out of the debris, two others injured in the collapse were rushed to a nearby hospital," he said, on condition of anonymity.

Rescuers are continuing their search to bring out some others still feared trapped under the debris, the official said, adding that a probe has been ordered into the incident.

Building collapses are common in India because of poor construction practices.

Last Friday, more than 61 people were killed in a similar building collapse in Mumbai.
