NEW DELHI - India on Monday successfully testfired its home-made, nuclear-capable Prithvi II missile from a test range in the eastern state of Odisha, sources said.

"The missile was testfired from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur, some 15 kms from the state's Balasore District, around 9:15 am (local time). The testfiring of the missile, randomly chosen from the stock, was successful," the sources said.

Developed by state-owned Defense Research and Development Organisation, Prithvi II is capable of carrying nuclear warheads of up to 1,000 kgs.

The missile has a strike range of 350 kms and has already been inducted into the Indian Army.
