ADDIS ABABA - The Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the African Union (AU) on Friday suspended the participation of Egypt from all the activities of the 54-member bloc.
The decision came here at the convening of the 384th meeting of the AU-PSC at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, which focused on the situation in Egypt.
In a statement, the AU-PSC said it decided to suspend Egypt to press for the restoration of constitutional rule after the North African country's President Mohamed Morsi was ousted.
The army toppled Morsi on Wednesday amid mass protests, which had hit the streets for four consecutive days since June 30.
Adli Mansour took the oath on Thursday as interim head of state.
