WASHINGTON - The United States believes Israel has conducted an airstrike into Syria, CNN reported on Friday, quoting two US officials.
Intelligence shows that Israel most likely conducted a strike in the "Thursday-Friday time frame", according to the two officials.
Other US intelligence shows that a large number of Israeli warplanes were flying over Lebanon in the same time frame, CNN said on its website, adding that the United States does not believe the Israeli warplanes entered Syrian airspace to conduct the strike.
Both officials said that there is no indication that Israel struck Syrian sites that allegedly store chemical weapons.
Israel has long threatened to take out targets that are believed to be smuggling weapons from Syria to Lebanon's militant group Hezbollah.
So far, the Israeli military has no comment on the report.
